All about ME

  Maine, the Way Life Is

I am reflecting on all of the wonderful reasons living in Maine is worth the economic challenges it also presents. Of course, among the first is the incredible sheer beauty of mother nature at her grandest.  From the coast to the mountains and all the bike-able bi-ways in between, Maine wins on outdoor glory and low impact living.

In recent years the number of support local movements, from organic locally grown food from community gardens and farms, share the road bike lanes, introduction of new rail systems, and a general softening and warming up to those of us "from away" are all making life in Maine, well the way life should be, and is.

Part of the peaceful nature of life here comes directly from nature itself.  The splendor of the hues of blue ocean, beauty of the various energizing shades of green in trees, flowering plants, shrubs, and lawns, to the sparkling orange streaks of sunshine coming over the horizon or sinking with the sun make the state's nickname, Vactionland, well earned.

When I first returned to live on the east coast in Maine over 10 years ago as a transfer from the west coast of Hawaii, many people were incredulous.  "How could you leave Hawaii for Maine?!" Their contorted faces showed the depth of concern they were feeling about my executive decision making skills.

I just smiled while giving what came to be my standard response, "If you think Maine cannot hold a candle to Hawaii for breath taking beauty, peaceful presence in nature, and all around quality of life, you need to get out and see more of Maine."  There are so many reasons that Maine is all that and more.
As the state motto says, "Dirigo," I lead or direct, Maine is a state to follow for quality of life and down to earth satisfaction from living simply and living well.
