2 MINUTE MEDITATION WITH HIS HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA

HHDL RECOMMENDS 2 MINUTE MEDITATION 
5X DAILY

"INSTEAD OF TRYING TO MASTER MEDITATION IN A WEEK LONG INTENSIVE OR EVEN A WEEKEND PROGRAM, TRY JUST 2 MINUTES A DAY AT 5 DIFFERENT INTERVALS THROUGHOUT THE DAY."  

THIS IS THE ADVICE HIS HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA OFFERED AT A TALK WHEN THE TOPIC OF MEDITATION CAME UP.  HE ENCOURAGED US NOT TO GET AHEAD OF OURSELVES BY TAKING ON TOO MUCH AT ONCE.  "IF YOU GET UP IN THE MORNING, WASH YOUR FACE, BRUSH YOUR TEETH, STRETCH YOUR BODY A LITTLE, THEN SIT DOWN TO DO JUST 2 MINUTES OF CALMLY WATCHING THE BREATH TO FOCUS THE MIND AND ESTABLISH PRESENCE, YOU'LL BE BETTER OFF IN THE LONG RUN.  MEDITATION LIKE THIS CAN HAPPEN 4 OTHER TIMES THROUGHOUT THE DAY, JUST 2 MINUTES, TO KEEP BUILDING UP A FAMILIARITY WITH THE STATE OF MIND THAT IS ESTABLISHED DURING THE PRACTICE.  THAT WAY YOU CAN NOTICE MORE QUICKLY WHEN YOU HAVE LOST CONTACT WITH THAT CALM, PRESENT STATE OF AWARENESS. 
"OVER TIME, YOU CAN BEGIN TO ADD MORE MINUTES SITTING BUT AT THE BEGINNING IT IS IMPORTANT TO BE PRACTICAL AND REALISTIC.  JUST GET A SOLID PRACTICE LIKE THIS GOING AND YOU'LL ENJOY 10 MINUTES OF REAL MEDITATION EACH DAY.  THIS CAN PROVE LARGELY BENEFICIAL OVER THE LONG TERM."

SIT. BREATHE. RELAX. BE PRESENT. STAY ALERT.
